way began in qualifying where
the top spot changed hands sev-
eral times. Matt Smith claimed
the early lead on his Polaris
Victory Magnum and Arana Jr.
later took over the pole. In the
final session, Tonglet earned the
number-one seed with a 6.800
elapsed time. Tonglet's momen-
tum carried over to race day
where he used four very consis-
tent runs to defeat Cory Reed,
Scotty Pollacheck, Karen Stoffer
and Arana Jr.
Tonglet's toughest round
came against Pollacheck but he
managed to hold on for a 6.843
to 6.881 victory.
"You can't take anyone in this
class lightly, including Scotty,"
Tonglet said. "Everybody is fast
When they get their program
figured out, and they will, we're
going to have our hands full."
The drama at Route 66 Race-
time," said Tonglet. "There are
two bikes out there [the Harley
team] that are struggling, which
might be why we have four wins.
Hector Arana Jr. met up with Tonglet in the final and gave Tonglet a race but came up a little short.
Karen Stoffer knocked of both
Andrew Hines and Jerry Savoie but
couldn't quite make it to the final.
