Motocross Park By Dick Goodwin LAS VEGAS, NEV, MAR. 17 Pros Kevin Steele and Lenny Giger were the feature attrac- tion today at the Las Vegas Motocross.Park, by displaying first -cl ass, handlebar-to-handlebar racing ac tion. Competing in the 250cc cla ss, Steele and Giger started th e fir st moto off glued to eac h othe r's rear fenders - Steele, riding h is Vegas Cycle Suzuki, jumped into th e early lead. which he held on to for th e next three laps. T his is when Giger a nd hi s Honda moved alo ng side of Steele, but th e Suzuki pilot just slammed th e door shu t on Giger. The two stayed th is . close for th e next four laps before Gi ger cras hed at the bo ttom of Camel- back hill. By th e time Giger reco- vered, Steele was alrea dy long gone, and Giger's bike suffered mechanical problems after the cras h. Beli eve it or not, th e seco nd moto was even hotter than th e fir st, Steele crashed going into th e first turn, while Giger sta lled his engine in the same mishap. Steve Van Hoove found himself in th e lead, bUI ir didn't last for long - heading into the seco nd turn, Van Hoove endoed o ut of fir st . Soon afte r. Giger moved into the lead followed by Kawasaki-mounted Rus- sell a nd Van Hoove, Meanwhile, Steele was taking ca re of business in th e middle of the pa ck. As th e race progressed. Giger held on to his lead, while Steele moved into second; abo ut 15 bikelengths behind. Steel e in ch ed h is way closer and closer to Gi ger as th ey pulled away from the rest of the pack. Steete eventually, caught up to Giger and sta rted to stuff his way past Giger. During th e seventh lap, Steelemoved in to th e lead, but Giger quickly retaliated. Steele tried again, but Hungry Valley hosts CRC'sMagic Mountain GP By Terry Rezek HUNGRY VALLEY, CA, MAR. 17 With the demise of Indian Dunes, California Racing Club has been forced to move its manv events to whichever area has space in rhesrhedule or, as for today's Magi c Mountain Grand Prix. to an area which doesn't ye t have a schedule. Trittler hung on for second and Gipson stayed wa y up with th e Expert to get the Novice win. Souza and MacFarlane joined by Mike Davis in front of th e Beginners.
