VOL. 54 ISSUE 25 JUNE 27, 2017 P75 birthday at the track and seemed to be getting unexpected gifts. First, the man he was chasing in the points race fails to make the main, then the man chasing him in points, but ahead of him on the track (Sammy Halbert) couldn't make the restart. "I got a couple birthday presents. First Jared with his deal and whatever happened to Halbert's bike. I thought I had something for the win today. I beat Jared in the heat race by a fair amount," said Smith. "After the red flag I was going in high and turning and coming out low. I thought I could get Davis and we were catching Wiles. Whoever was laying in turn two; I had to check up and Davis gapped me." (A rider had fallen with four laps to go and was on the inside edge of the track.) I thought I could get one more run and catch back up to him and he was laying there again, which kind of sucked, because I had to check up again. It definitely cost me at least one spot, I think. Sixth was definitely all she wrote. It was an all right day, considering I was almost upside down a couple times. With Jared's deal, we'll take what we can get." Going into an off weekend Bryan Smith has regained the points lead by five over Mees. Brad Baker has moved up into third, putting all three Indians into the top three spots. Baker is 50 points behind Smith and Sammy Halbert is seven back of Baker. Jeffrey Carver rounds out the top five at the midpoint of the season. The AFT Singles points race also had a major shake up as contender Kolby Carlile (Parkinson Brothers Racing Honda) had his exhaust pipe come off while he was running away with his semi. Unable to finish the race, Carlile had to miss the main. Championship leader Shayna Texter benefited from this and the red flag in the AFT Singles main. Texter was mired in 11th place when the red flag halted the race. She was able to work her way up to a sixth-place finish and now holds a 22-point lead over Brandon Price, who leap- frogged over Carlile into second. Parker Norris (24) held off Kevin Stollings to win the AFT Singles main.
