POURCEL SHINES IN CANADA
C
hristophe Pourcel returned
to his winning ways in the
2017 CMRC Rockstar Energy
Drink Motocross Nationals at
Moto Valley Raceway in Regina,
Saskatchewan, Canada, June
25. But the Frenchman needed
a little bit of good luck to get it
done.
Matt Goerke, on the Rockstar
Energy OTSFF Yamaha, passed
early leader Pourcel in the first
moto and never looked back.
Despite Pourcel setting the
quickest lap time of the moto,
Goerke held on to take the win
over Pourcel.
Goerke was again leading
the second moto, with Pourcel
right behind him, when his chain
derailed with just a few turns left
in the race.
Pourcel scooted passed the
Yamaha rider and took the moto
win and overall victory, his third
of the year. Goerke managed
to get the chain back on but
not before five more riders had
passed. His 1-6 moto tally gave
him third for the day.
Mike Alessi squeezed in
between the two to grab second
overall with a 3-2. It was his best
showing of the series.
Honda rider Tyler Medaglia
was fourth overall (4-4), while
Dillan Epstein was fifth overall
with an 11-3.
Pourcel and Goerke are now
tied for the championship lead
with 212 points each. Epstein is
third with 190 and Colton Fac-
ciotti is fourth with 185. Just five
points back is Tyler Medaglia,
and Alessi is sixth at 174.
Cole Thompson (KTM) won
the MX2 class with 1-1 results.
Josh Osby (KTM) was second
with a 2-3, and Dylan Wright was
third with a 3-4.
Ryan Surratt was fourth
overall with a pair of fifth-place
finishes.
Thompson heads the MX2
Championship with 224 points,
followed by Osby with 191.
Shawn Maffenbeier (182), Sur-
ratt (169) and Jess Pettis (148)
round out the top five in the
championship. CN
