VOL. 54 ISSUE 25 JUNE 27, 2017 P25
it's tough, these guys are so fast.
It's awesome to get my first podi-
um and have Tony there in Italy,
the fans are crazy. It's awesome
to stand up there alongside him
[Cairoli], I have a lot of respect
for all of these guys!"
Yamaha's Romain Febvre
nearly got on the podium for the
first time this year with fourth
(4-6), while Husky's Max Nagl
rounded out the top five overall
with 7-4 moto scores.
Suzuki's Seewer, who strug-
gled a bit in qualifying, let it rip in
the first MX2 moto, passing his
way into first place and running
off with the moto win with 12
seconds to spare over Yamaha's
Benoit Paturel.
After a couple of small get-offs
that sapped his energy, Seewer
had to be satisfied with second
place in the second moto, but
it was good enough to give him
the overall victory, the third of his
career.
KTM's Pauls Jonass, who won
the second motos, suffered in
the heat in the first moto after
getting a bad start. He actu-
ally worked his way up to fourth
place, but the energy it took to
get there cost him in the end.
He faded back to sixth, but his
6-1 was good enough to give him
second overall on the day and
maintain his comfortable lead
over Seewer in the champion-
ship. He still enjoys a 38-point
advantage over the Suzuki rider.
Third overall was American
Thomas Covington on the Rock-
star Energy Husqvarna. A 4-3
was good enough to get him on
the podium.
Fourth overall was Paturel (2-
7), who fell in the first turn in the
second moto, followed by the
Netherlands' Bas Vaessen (7-4).
It was the Suzuki rider's best
result of his GP career. CN
