LODI SHORT TRACK By Ann Carr LODI, CAL., June 16, 1972 - Another season of Friday nigh t racing began as 165 riders tested their mettle on a smooth, tacky and bit groovy track in the Lodi Cycle Bowl. Nineteen 250 Experts battled for black plate points with local Kawasaki Expert Alex Jorgensen coming out on top. Jeff Davidson held off Jorgy and professional road racer John Green until lap thTee when Jeff's Ossa blew coming into the north turn. In the 500 Expert Main, Jeff Davidson zoomed off the line for a wire.to.wire win. Second year Expert Kim Jorgensen applied pressure for two laps but then had to concentrate on staying ahead of "Old Man" Ray Huff. Kim's second proved to be one of his BENEFIT SCRAMBL!':cES~ By N. A. Williams _ BRUSH PRAIRIE, WASI·I., July 2, 1972 - The Lucky Spokes held a benefit scrambles today for Laurie Fisher who was hurt in th~ collapse of a school here. All of the proceeds went to pay for her hospital bills. Doc Harmon (Kaw) went down in his 500 heat but finished third. He won his Semi and told the little girl that she could have his trophy if he won the A Main. He presented her with the trophy after the day's events. Gary Fisher (Kaw), a fellow with a winning name, won the 100 trophy dash but fell while leading the A Main. Rupert Dykstra (Bul) did the same in the 200 class. DRIFTERS'SCRAMBLES-- By N. A. Williams WHITE SALMON, WASH., June 25, 1972 - Steve Johnson (Yam) and Dave Mazour (Yam) shared the honors in the 100 Beginners class today at the Drifters' Scrambles. Steve won the A Main and Dave took the Trophy Dash. Dave Celorie (Kaw) won the 100 Trophy Dash and was running second when he fell in the A Main. Ivan Clements took over his place for second. The 250 class was a shake.up each time out. Ricky Graves won the TO with Rupert Dykstra (Yam) second, but in the A Main Ricky had to settle for a second behind Alan Mundt (Kaw). Bultaco ruled the 250 Junior Main as Ron Boley jumped out in front and was never headed. Joe Klein just barely made the Main, but got a super drive into the tree turn to grab second and hold off Mike Knouse and Steve Sanders. In the Open Novice event, Lou Lutche powered his Yamaha into a first lap lead and went on to win. Mike Forige worked his way from eighth on the first lap to a second. Some new names. appeared in the 250 NoVice trophy list. Rod Murphy aboard a Kawasaki won it going away while Ken Cave and Bob Quails followed. High point trophies for each displacement will be awarded for the season along with an overall high point award. BAKERSFIELD SCRAMBLES_ By AccuReport BAKERSFIELD, CAL., June 24, 1972 - The Sprockets M.C. broke out their Half·Mile/Scrambles course to host 155 riders Saturday to some super.fast nigh t, topping off racing a double·header weekend. The feature Main of the evening was the Open Novice class. John Osenbaugh figured it was his night to win and put his Triumph into an immediate lead. He was contested closely .all the way by Jerry Frazier and Ken Busby. That's the way things went for almost four laps until Frazier decided to tum it on the rest of the way and passed Osenbaugh for the win by a mere six inch margin over the line. When you see Steve Salyers at Sprockets you can just about figure he'll be carrying home gold, whether he's riding his Honda or his H·D. He had to really work for it tonight though, to stay ahead of hard·charger Randy Lewis and his Montesa. Jack Martin and his Yamaha couldn't be caught in the 360 Jr/Ex. class but Lyle Moore gave it one heck of a try. Bill Payne used his TT skill along wi th his motocross ability to take' a close th ird and first Junior. On the last lap Caylor hit neutral and slid out in the right hander.
