Gresham won consolation. . (Cont'd. from page 32) basis three points for a win, two for second, one for third and zero for fourth. Should two team riders sweep a heat in the first and second spots, the second place team rider gains an additional one bonus point. This additionally encourages team riding and cooperation on the track between teammates. In team motorcycle racing, the team must win, not the individual so there is little direct competition between teammates. At the conclusion of a team match, the team with the greater points total is' the overall winner. RACING EQUIPMENT AND STYLE: There is no alteration of the basic speedway motorcycle or the style of riding in team racing other than an awareness of the need for a team effort rather than an individual effort. The motorcycles remain SOOcc single cylinder, four·stroke Czechoslovakian Jawas or English J.A.P.s running on a nitro or alcohol racing fuel and pumping out close to 60 horsepower with a totar weight of 190 pounds. Morley, Minor at (al.Expo By Pat Jones SACRAJ\1ENTO, CAL., June 30, 1972 - Stu Morley rode 250 pounds of J awa and about 50 pounds of Super Tape to his second straight Scratch Main win at Cal-Expo. Morley's bike had so much tape plastered to it that it was hard to tell whether it was a Jawa or maybe one of the Japanese speedway bikes supposedly being developed for in traduction in the near fu ture. ~ Whatever it was, it was fast enough for Morley to ride to an easy win over Gus Lauer and John Cunningham in the Scratch Main. The Handicap Main wen t to former unknown Paul Minor, J r. who started the year as somebody to fill out the program but is turning out to be one of the big winners on the northern speedway circuit. The biggest crowd pleaser of the evening was one of the consolation events. Mike Rooney, who had broken his collarbone and arm in an accident four weeks previously, made his first start since the incident and captured the Scratch Consy. His only 'competition in the race came from his brother, Pat Rooney. Pat, apparently not overwhelmed with sympathy for his injured brother, went four laps wheel-to·wheel with Mike to a dead heat. In typical Rooney fashion, Pat and Mike then rolled into the pits laughing so hard they nearly fell off their bikes. Jim Doran andJoe Henry squared off for the match race. When the gate went up, Doron promptly spilled. The event restarted and tit is time Henry went down. After announcer. Steve Rooney. t.old the crowd the event was going t.o be awarded on a "Best two out of three falls basis", Henry got it aU together and won the event by a large mar.gin. The best thing that ever happened to a chain. Mfd by, "Blendzall" Corporation 1433-37 First St. Escalon, Calif. 95320 Words, pictures and diagrams worth their weight In gold.
