Los Angeles, California, July 8, 1972, Marty Tripes - Yamaha's 16 year-old factory team rider - placed first overall in the International 250 Inter-AMA motocross race held under the lights before a record crowd of 35,000 in the Los Angeles Coliseum. This "Yamaha Super Bowl of Motocross" was the third Inter-AMA race of the year, and the third straight win for Yamaha. 1. The first race of the season, at Boise, Idaho on June 25, was dominated by Yamaha Fact.9ry Team rider Gary Jones on his Yamaha 250 with three 1st places and the overall win. 2.
