BALDWIN MOTOCROSS PARK, KANS., June 25, 1972 - The weather was hot and dry for the Wheelsport Motocross. The Butell brothers worked most of Saturday night watering the track, but when the sun came out the water disappear~d and the track turned into a dust bowl. The dusty conditions on the track contributed to many crashes and endos. The ambulance crews were kept busy carrying injured riders and checking out other riders who had fallen. Credit must be given to the top fligh t ambulance crews at the Wheelsport races. The 125 Senior had Craig Bills back
in the limelight winning all three motos. The first two motos he led from start to finish but the third moto Craig had to work up from back in the pack, he moved up one position every lap until leading again. Second overall .was a battle between Randy Shekell and Jim Yount, with Randy coming out ahead. 300 Senior overall winner Rick
Kohout dominated the first'two motos by leading from start to finish but could only manage a third in the last moto. George Readeacker who was always in sigh t of the leaders grabbed second overall. Third place Jimmy Barrett was always in the top four in his first time in the Senior class at Baldwin.
There was quite a battle in the Open
Senior with Jerry Cobb taking the first moto and Ric~ Kohout a close second. The second moto Jerry got run over in the first lap and then it was Mike all the way. The third moto Jerry was back in form again and claimed second place followed by Pat Hagerty with Mike Krebs demonstrating just how fast he can go, out in front. In the 100 Junior, Mark Weller had
the first moto in the bag from top to bottom. The next two motos, Tim Barrett took over completely. Mark grabbed one second and a third to get first overall followed by Tim. 125 A division Junior had only one
person in the lead, Barry Hill who won all three. Ron Ely tried to win all three in the 125 B Junior but could only get the first two, when Verle Vallier took 'the third moto, with Ron a close second after working through the pack. John Bissell had the overall in 250 A
Junior. Second and third place were captured by Bob and Jim Searing riding new 250 Honda Singles. Only two riders had the honor to lead
the Open Junior. David Rile led one lap in the third moto and Tim Wolfe was leading the rest of the time. Daddy Barrett took second overall by coming in second in the first tWo motos and third in the last moto.

MANNING CANYON, UTAH, June 25, 1972 - Warm weather and about 220 riders turned out for the Manning Cycle Park motocross Sunday. It was the last ,SRA (District 26) points event of the first half, and many of the Experts and Amateurs were there to finish in style. By far the best race Of the day was
the 250 Expert class. Kerry Fowler and Kenny Archibald had a duel that everyone was straining to watch.First moto, Fowler got a good start and cruised. Archibald didn"t get a good start and had to work to take second'. Second moto, Archibald got the jump and Fowler was behind. This time it was Kerry who worked his way past everyone except Kenny. Third moto, off the start, Kerry took the lead. At the first tight corner however, Kenny

drove inside, everybody bobbled and bounced, then Kenny came out first whili: Kerry was back ,in third. Coming around for th,e last lap, the
pressure was now on Archibald - and Kenny caugh t a tiT.e with his rear brake lever. He didn't go down"but the lever was bent back under tJ:Ie peg so that every time he stood up, the rear brake went on. That was it. Fowler first, Archibald second. LaMar Walker returned to his favorite stomping grounds, the 100 Expe,rt class, and stomped. Peter Crandall took the 125 Expert class to nobody's surprise, but Phil McDonald, on a strange bike, stayed a lot closer than the regular 125 class riders. Mike Droscher pulled out an upset victory over Mike Watters in the~ 209 class. The Open class went to Dennis Packard, ""d here there was nobody close. The Amateurs also did their thing,

namely ride well, put without the. Expert flair. The Ndvices did their thil'lg too, namely demolish the first turn fencing and stack themselves up like cordwood. All in all, racing went off smoothly. The biggest hassle was the ambulance
driver who did a good job when he got there, but who had an extra hour of sleep before getting there. When things finally got underway, however, it was a gO,od race and a good day.

record-breaking Scottish
Six-Days Team for three of its four years, and in fact was the team's leading rider this year, finishing ahead of Rob Sheperd, Gordon Farley and John Hemmingway., Gordon Farley had originally been scheduled to make the tour, but was unable to carry out the engagement due to pressing personal commitments. Edwards, like Farley, however, has an outstanding record aboard his Cota 247., He has notched several top-five finishes in World Title Rounds, and his personal finishes are a second overall in '7b, a fifth in '71, and a third thiS year. He is curren tly ranked number five in the World Standings, just one spot behind teammate Gordon Farley. Twenty·two
' year old Jerdi
Permanyer, son of the Montesa factory owner, will be traveling with Edwards throughout the tour. He is also one of Europe's most promising observed trials riders (a motocross buff, too!), and will be assisting E.dwards in his schools and exhibitions.
