MAMMOTH LAKES, CAL., JUNE 12-13 Amid the blubber of enginesrunning on the fat side and riders lungs burning a little lean 5,000 motocross fans ascended to a scenic valley over 7,000 feet above their Southern California homes. When it was all over Mike Bell and his four-stroke Honda hadthrobbed its way up the side of a mountain. down through a moist sand valley. across a wooded glen ' and into the Open class winner's circle. Joining him there with strong . performances against strong fields were 125 winner Jack Keese and 250 Pro Gary Ogden. Yet on the side of the mountain everyone came away
a winner from the hundreds of Amateurs who came to race on the best prepared and roughest track in California to the spectators who got more than 20 motos a day of rooster-tailing action. Mammoth is Marty Tripes coming from behind, Bob Grossi coming out to ride again. Kenny Zahrt flashing down the downhill. Danny LaPorte being knocked down in the first turn and still qualifying. but -rno re than that Mammoth is motocross madness at its finest, Results in Results Section.
