Just two weeks ago the Ventura Sharks were in last place. Sin ce then, they have not los t a race meet at home or away . tonight it was the San Bernardino Sizzlers suffering the loss. Suffering could cover th eir whole problem at the presen t . Their team cap tain, Larry Shaw, is out with a broken tailbone , Billy Meister has been out for weeks with a broken leg and Dennis Sigalos has been sidelined with an eye in fection . Rod Sexton is the newest rider to come on the Sizzlers team and the eigh t poin ts that he added to their score was only topped by Mark Cherry with 13 and Jim Fishback with 12. The home team Jed all the way. There were two clean seeeps, one eac h. Danny Becker was high poin t rid er fo r the Sharks with II points, Bobby Schwartz got te n. Final score was 43-35. Dave Sims, third high man for the Sharks, moved on into the First Division Handicap, going all the way for the win in the Handicap Main . San Bernardino, California June 9,1976 Home town folks came out to see the Sizz lers catch it again from the L.A, Sprockets - as Mike Bast and company put anothe r st ranglehold on Berdoo, As co uld be expect ed, Bast an d Penhall were the high point leaders for L.A. with Mike scoring four wins and Bru ce three. Steve Columbo provided a pleasan t surprise as he stuffed in a co uple of wins himself. On the flip side, Sizzler high pointer J im Fishback just couldn't get it to gether as he cou ld only pull one win and a string of seco nds the rest of the night. Dean Forman just couldn't get mean enough either, and Mark Cherry was inconsistent. Penahll blasted to a win for L.A. in the final while Fishback gained some measure of pride by placing second over Mike Bast . Nevertheless, an y pride that Berdoo had went down the drain with the final score, 42-36. If it was any consolation to Berdoo fans, L.A. riders were blown away in the Handicap heats. Bast never made it out of his own heat, and Penhall got as far as the conso lation. Rob Morri son made it to the Main, but never placed in the money. Stu Egli was the one to win it, as he held off some heavy duty hot shoes, including Fish back! gasp! - By Rex Reese f Irwindale, California June 10, 1976 The Sprocke ts kept on ro lling as they plucked th e Eagles clean, their mos t embarrassing defeat yet. Bruce Penhall an d Norm Denny performed in th e first of eight sweeps by L A. If O.C. promoter Harry Oxley had any not ion ab out how things would turn out, he probably wo uld've co nceded defeat after th e first ro und. Simply put, tonight was a lost cause fo r the Eagles.
