FLAT TRACK
2017 AMERICAN FLAT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 8 / JUNE 17, 2017
REMINGTON PARK / OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA
P84
AFT SINGLES
Seeking to replicate his 2016
victory at Remington Park,
Tristan Avery (Ron Ayers Rac-
ing Honda) rocketed off the line
in the 15-lap main event.
Avery's quick advantage was
whittled away as last week's
winner Kevin Stollings (Ben
Evans Racing/Dave's Cycles
Honda) and Shayna Texter
(Richie Morris Racing/McElroy
Packaging Honda) made it a
three-rider race.
1 BRYAN SMITH 3RD AFT TWINS
"I just lost grip halfway through, I couldn't figure the track out. I made a mis-
take and let Jared get by," said Smith. "I just couldn't get a grip on the track.
It got drier and I kept getting worse and worse. The bike was just beating me
up. I moved around a little bit, but after about jumping off I figured I better go
home in third. Lapped traffic didn't help me. I think the only guy it helped was
Jared."
69 SAMMY HALBERT 4TH AFT TWINS
"This was the first race for me on the cushion track with the Yamaha. It went
all right," said Halbert. "We were first of the production-based motors again.
Not bad. We kind of know that some tracks are more suited to certain bikes.
This was our first run on this type of stuff." I pulled a couple good holeshots
earlier. I was hoping that I would get a good holeshot in the main and at least
throw a little dirt in their face for a couple laps, it wasn't to be. They were
definitely hooking up good. I was sort of on cruise, because I wasn't catching
the leaders and I had got back to fifth place. At some point I just cruised. It
definitely was a physical race. If I needed to push I could have pushed a little
more. I just did what I had to do to bring it home."
Briar Bauman
was on the
top-placing
Kawasaki in
sixth.
