My Own Race:
9 JARED MEES 1ST AFT TWINS
For most of the race it looked like the only race would be for second. "In the very beginning
I thought it was going to be a race between me and Bryan," said Mees. "Then with the laps
winding down, things changed drastically. I just put my head down and just started slowly
catching Brad. When I got to him we went back and forth. In the lapped traffic I kind of fol-
lowed his hole. They held him up and then they held me up a couple times. It was a duel; it
was like a dogfight out there. Last year I ran away with it. This year we were so equal on the
Indians that it just purely came down to who wanted it the most."
6 BRAD BAKER 2ND AFT TWINS
"It was definitely not the outcome that I wanted. I felt so good that whole main
event," said Baker. "Lappers were the biggest key in the outcome. It just hurts
to not get a win. I've been working so hard for it; I've been so close. Especially
this one where I led probably 22, 23 laps. It was definitely a heartbreaker. I don't
think I did anything wrong. Getting through lappers is part of racing. I've just got
to keep putting my head down and try not to get down on myself. One time I got
up over the curb and got out into the deep stuff. I lost all sorts of time. I thought,
'man I did not get through these guys good.' I didn't know if it was Jared or Bryan
behind me. I knew it was an Indian. I heard them there with about three to go.
I was hoping it was a lapped rider, but it wasn't. He came around me on the
outside out of two. I was able to sneak by coming off of four. I did a little draft passing to one and got a little run on him
again. He seemed to find a little bit better line."
Shawn Baer
enjoyed his best
ride of the year,
putting the KTM
LC8 in fifth place.
