PIKES PEAK KICKS OFF FOR 2017
T
he Pikes Peak International
Hill Climb has started for
2017 and we are once again
tackling the challenge with our
Road Test Editor, Rennie Scay-
sbrook at the controls of a 2017
KTM 1290 Super Duke R.
June 10-11 saw the team
compete in the official Pikes
Peak tire test, and it was smiles
all around for Cycle News/
Team KTM North America as
Scaysbrook topped the time
sheets on the second day with a
4:19.367 time across the bottom
half of the circuit.
Second fastest went to Scay-
sbrook's KTM North America
teammate, Chris Fillmore with
a 4:20.068 in what was an ex-
tremely impressive performance
for the highly-respected rookie,
who was bed-ridden for the en-
tire weekend with a nasty virus
he picked up earlier in the week.
Third went to 2016 Pikes
Peak King of the Mountain,
Frenchman Bruno Langlois on
4:20.550. Langlois, however,
appears to be in the best shape
of the top three on his brand
new Kawasaki Z900 when
he topped day one across
the second half of the 12.42-
mile course, when he put in
a scorching time of 5:56.30
to head second-placed Scay-
sbrook by seven seconds. Scay-
sbrook's time was a 6:03.43,
with Fillmore finishing day one in
third on a 6:05.17.
