VOL. 54 ISSUE 22 JUNE 6, 2017 P97 (Forward Kalex) in a monster first-lap crash, both escaping injury. Danny Kent, substituting for Lecuona, also crashed out, as did Stefano Manzi. Morbidelli's points lead took a hit, now 113 to Luthi's 100. Marquez (78), Oliveira (70) and Bagnaia (53) complete the top five. MOTO3 Shuffle the pack, do it again a few times, and then pick a card. That's not far from how the results of the first race of the day were decided. It is unfair to suggest that first-time winner Andrea Migno (SKY VR46 KTM) didn't deserve it, and that he didn't display consummate skill. But it is also worth noting that the fastest qualifier Jorge Martin (Gresini Honda) came back from a 12-po- sition grid penalty and was one of a hatful of leaders in the early stages, but finished 15th. And that he was barely 1.5 seconds away from victory. In fact, the first 19 were still technically in the lead group at the end, covered by just 2.3 seconds. Counting the different lead- ers would take almost all night, though it is worth noting that Jerez winner Aron Canet (EG Honda) set a new lap record on lap three, which he started in 14th place and finished in 11th, and that nobody led over the line more often than Fabio Di Giannantonio (Gresini Honda), off, having dropped back to 20th on lap five. By the finish, he'd got be- tween the pair with Marini sixth and Corsi eighth. Rookie Jorge Navarro (Gresini Kalex) had only lost touch in the closing laps, less than two sec- onds down, while the returned Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) had picked his way through, and was less than a half-second away in 10th. The 2016 Moto3 Champion was back after missing three races after a third bout of arm surgery, and was racing in pain. Tenth was quite an achievement. Marcel Schrotter (Dynavolt Suter) was just three thou- sandths behind him, Hafizh Syahrin (Petronas Kalex) right up close and Isaac Vinales (SAG Kalex) just over a second away in 13th. Remy Gardner (Tech 3) was a lone 14th, for his first points of the season. Xavier Simeon (Tasca Kalex) led the next gang for the final point. Second-row qualifier Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda) was wiped out by Lorenzo Baldassarri
