CN III VOICES W H A T Y O U A R E S A Y I N G "What I got out of the race was Halbert and the Yamaha are becoming more dangerous to Indian every week." Nicky Hayden We ask the impossible of our heroes—to dance on the very edge of control and expose us to the limits of our own nerves. Nicky Hayden will forever remain a superhero on the track—but he was known to motorcyclists as the Clark Kent of the paddock. A quick smile, a friendly wave and an approach- ability that few possess in any sport. His skill with the throttle was superseded only with the joy of twisting it. I am lucky to have shared a flash of time with him a couple lifetimes ago—but I cannot imagine the great pain that will tear through his close friends and family. Many people were closer—but when you were with the guy, you were in his family for that moment. Thank you, Nicky, for be- ing the humble master of your sport, and sharing yourself with the rest of us who could only imagine. Race in peace, #69. You remain our champion. Robert Pandya Baggett, Bogle, Lakewood MX The 2017 outdoor nationals are turning out to be the best! Dif- ferent winners, both moto and overall, favorites having issues, come-from-behind performanc- es and this last one with Baggett getting a moto win and overall. Tomac is having trouble with his starts, and the inconsis- tency is puzzling. It all makes for a super-exciting season so far this year. Both 250 and 450 classes are offering up some amazing competition and surprise results. The fact that one pro isn't running away with it and that each weekend you just never know what will hap- pen, it's the perfect scenario for edge-of-your-seat racing. Watching Bogle get his first win was emotional for me, same with Baggett flying past Tomac and getting the win. When you've witnessed these guys come from the amateur classes, then starting their pro careers, I can't help getting excited by experiencing my own level of emotional highs and lows as they progress through their rac- ing careers. John A. Stockman Baggett was amazing. Hopefully he can keep this up and make this championship a real battle. That outside line he was taking, where he was making passes, was brilliant. That is the Blake Baggett I remember from the 250s. Jim Bunch The Red Mile What I got out of the race was Halbert and the Yamaha are becoming more dangerous to Indian every week. The track had wide turns and short straights, the perfect Harley XR track, and Mees adapted to it well on the Indian. Halbert rode it the same way using the Yamaha's best attributes to perfection. The FZ might make Indian's life miser- able on half miles. James Edward Zeiser Middle of the season and Harley hasn't even sniffed the podium yet. It's great for the sport to have more than one brand winning. Granted, Indian is strong now but looks like Yamaha is very close. Also, I bet those Kawis get in the fight before too much longer. Jason Danhakl The Harley's are coming! Ed Beckley Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com. Published letters do not necessarily reflect the position of Cycle News.
