A 700cc oil tank is hidden underneath the seat area of the bike with an oil pump mounted underneath the oil tank, deliver- ing the lubricant to the front of throttle body, where minute quantities are mixed with the incoming air in order to lubricate the moving engine parts. Using engine speed and throttle position sensor data, the engine management system provides the perfect amount of oil for any given condition, engine speed or load. The ECU-controlled oil injection reduces exhaust smoke by up to 50% over conventional pre-mix lubrication, with an average fuel-to-oil ratio of 80:1. KTM tells us it is possible to get five tanks of fuel for every full tank of oil and the system adjusts the ratio between 70:1 and 100:1 depending on condi- tions. The filler cap for the oil tank is located between the fuel tank and steering head, utilizing a hose in the upper frame tube to deliver the oil to the hidden oil tank.
