No need to clean
out the "carb" after
long decents.
Premixing your own gas before it
enters the gas tank is a thing of the past.
A 700cc oil tank is hidden underneath
the seat area of the bike with an oil pump
mounted underneath the oil tank, deliver-
ing the lubricant to the front of throttle
body, where minute quantities are mixed
with the incoming air in order to lubricate
the moving engine parts. Using engine
speed and throttle position sensor data,
the engine management system provides
the perfect amount of oil for any given
condition, engine speed or load.
The ECU-controlled oil injection
reduces exhaust smoke by up to 50%
over conventional pre-mix lubrication,
with an average fuel-to-oil ratio of 80:1.
KTM tells us it is possible to get five
tanks of fuel for every full tank of oil and
the system adjusts the ratio between
70:1 and 100:1 depending on condi-
tions. The filler cap for the oil tank is
located between the fuel tank and
steering head, utilizing a hose in the
upper frame tube to deliver the oil to the
hidden oil tank.
