IN THE WIND P64 JARVIS TOPS STUNTED MINAS RIDERS R ed Bull Minas Riders took some of the world's best hard enduro riders into the heart of Brazil for what was slated to be a four-day competition, but after the prologue and two days of off-road racing, the event concluded with the announcement that the third and fourth stages had been canceled. Graham Jarvis was named the winner, having piloted his Rockstar Energy Factory Racing Husqvarna to the lead at the conclusion of day two. Race promoters cited "environmental con- cerns" as the reason for concluding the event two days early. Apparently, despite having the proper permissions ahead of time, repeated complaints from locals prompted local authorities to intervene in the event. The cancelation of the final two stages was particularly bad news for Cody Webb—the Ameri- can had yielded time to Jarvis on the first day and was planning on using the remaining stages to close the gap to the leader. Webb topped day two, making up valuable time and putting him in a good position to fight to the finish, but the Red Bull KTM rider was disappointed to see the race come to a close ahead of schedule. "This has been a pretty crazy few days," said Webb. "It was insane out there on day two; one hell of an experience. I've ridden some hard stuff before, but that was on another level. It was relentless for more than five hours of unforgiving terrain. We were up in the mountains on crazy goat trails and then deep in the jungle with tight, tight trees to squeeze past. To get a stage win was amazing. It's just a shame that it was also the end of the race." Even though he was credited with the win, Jarvis was also disappointed to see the race end early. "It's great to come away with the win, but it is a bittersweet victory due to the race being cut short by two days. It was a situation that arose be- yond the event organizer's control and it's disap- pointing for them and the sport for this to happen. "I was enjoying the fight with Cody. We rode together quite a lot and I could feel that battle was going to continue right until the checkered flag. It's been good to end with a victory and now I'm looking forward to bringing that winning momen- tum to the Erzberg Rodeo next month," Jarvis concluded. Red Bull KTM's Alfredo Gomez—defending Minas Riders champion—rounded out the podium in third place. CN American rider Cody Webb took second overall at the shortened Red Bull Minas Riders event.
