AT X-FACTOR

H
eavy rain leading up to the
inaugural X-Factor GNCC in
Peru, Indiana, May 20-21, proved
to be a challenge for both orga-
nizers and racers. The wet and
muddy conditions forced the Rac-
er Production crew to combine
the morning amateur race with the
afternoon pro race, and after the
two-hour race on the eight-mile
racecourse, a new face would
emerge at the top step of the po-
dium after all was said and done.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's
Thad Duvall finally captured his first win of the season, and he
was joined by his teammate Josh Strang on the podium, as
well as by N-Fab/ProAm Yamaha's Ricky Russell.
And where was points leader Kailub Russell?
He crossed the finish line way back in 14th overall
(eighth in the XC1 class) after crashing with another
rider in the second turn. Another mishap on the trail
later on and a bike issue near the end also hindered
his progress.
"Today was definitely a struggle with the track
conditions being like they were but at least we're
coming away with a few points toward the champi-
onship," the points leader said. "I didn't get the best
jump off the start and then I got taken out going into
turn two so the day started out a little rough. I got
back in touch with the leaders but then I fell into a
ravine and had to backtrack down a creek to get
out. I lost a ton of time but still climbed a good ways
back up. But then unfortunately I started running
Thad Duvall finally broke through for
his first GNCC win of the year at the
X-Factor GNCC in Indiana.
