ROAD RACE ROUND 3 / MAY 12-13, 2017 VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY / ALTON, VIRGINIA P84 2017 MOTOAMERICA it would be difficult to make it up." Solis again took the final podium position on his privateer Honda, finishing ahead of an ec- static Gilbert who took the first double victory in the Superstock class in his young career. The top 10 was rounded off by Aguilar, McFadden, Blevins, Mazziotto, Braeden Ortt (Tuned Racing Yamaha) and Comacho. Three rounds and five races in the Supersport class, Gerloff leads Beach by just four points, 106-102. Solis takes over third from Debise with 69 points to the Frenchman's 65. In Su- perstock 600, Gilbert takes over the championship points lead from Road Atlanta winner McFadden, 86-77. Aguilar is third in the title chase with 69 points. (M4 medAge Suzuki) rounded out the race one top 10. Race two was one JD Beach will remember for a long time after the 2015 MotoAmerica Su- persport Champion pulled off a last-lap pass on Gerloff through the double left-hander that paid tribute to his background sliding around dirt tracks in his native Kentucky. "It was a good race with Gar- rett [Gerloff], but he kept leav- ing the door open and I'm a dirt tracker, so I was able to take advantage of that. As long as he wasn't going to be in the grass on the left side, then I was going to go for it and keep sticking it in on him. Garrett's pace was good all weekend, he was fast again this morning, and I knew if I let him get a little bit of a gap on me that Garrett [Gerloff] and I, which isn't normal and I hope he doesn't continue that type of riding." Third place went to Honda's Benny Solis in a lonely ride on the Team H35 Honda CBR600RR, some 47.3 sec- onds off the race win at the flag. The Superstock 600 win went to Michael Gilbert, his first victory in 2017 on his new 2017 Team MG55 Yamaha YZF-R6. The Californian finished some six seconds ahead of a battle that went to former KTM Cup rider Anthony Mazziotto III (Mazziotto Racing Yamaha) over JC Cama- cho (Altus Motorsports Suzuki), Jason Aguilar (Aguilar Racing Yamaha) and Nick McFadden (M4 medAge Suzuki). Connor Blevins (EMR Excel Racing Kawasaki) and Brandon Paasch Gilbert's wins showed impressive maturity in a crunch year for the Californian. He's now leader in the Superstock 600 standings.
