LAFFERTY 1-2 AT PENNSYLVANIA
EAST HARE SCRAMBLE
T
he Laffertys kept it all in the family at the AMA
Eastern Regional Hare Scramble Champion-
ship in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, May 13-14. Ryder
Lafferty and his uncle, Mike, battled in the wet
conditions to take the first two steps of the podi-
um. Ryder outlasted his famous eight-time enduro
champ uncle Mike to take the win. Jesse Groemm
was third overall.
The AMA/D-6 club made the best of the six
inches of rain that fell on Friday and Saturday,
leaving Sunday's course a wet mess for the pros,
but it was nothing that the Laffertys hadn't seen
before in their racing careers, especially Mike,
who jumped out to an early lead. Ryder settled
in right behind him. Groemm quickly settled into
third.
Mike set the pace for the first six laps of what
would ultimately be an eight-lap race. But Mike
struggled during the final two go-arounds, hand-
ing the lead over to his nephew, Ryder.
Ryder then took control of the race and held on
for the victory. Mike also hung on to take second
place.
Groemm couldn't catch the veteran, Mike, in
the muddy conditions and had to settle for a hard-
earned third overall. CN
Ryder Lafferty
outdueled his
uncle, Mike
Lafferty, to win
the AMA East
Hare Scramble
in Palmerton,
Pennsylvania.
