SUPERCROSS
ROUND 17 / MAY 6, 2017
SAM BOYD STADIUM / LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
on the screen, and I think it said
minus-two points or something,
and I was like, 'Man, I wish I was
like 10 down. It'd make me feel
better,'" Cianciarulo said. "But it
was okay. I think this year, for me,
if I would've gotten lucky there
at the end and won the title, it's
kind of one of those deals where
everybody kind of knows I got
lucky. So, I feel like I'm in a good
position next year to really earn it,
and we'll just go from there." CN

MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES
P74
Guitar player Lincoln Brewster
played the National Anthem
during opening ceremonies,
but he did it on this custom-
painted Fender Stratocaster,
decked out in Jessy Nelson's
former number and colors. The
guitar is up for auction now
on eBay. All proceeds will go
toward helping Nelson in his
continuing recovery from his
spinal cord injury suffered last
year at Unadilla. Click here for
more information.
As for Nelson's recovery, we
spoke to him in Vegas, and he
has some promising news. His
initial diagnosis was paralysis
from about mid-chest down, but
he has recovered feeling and
movement down to his belly
button as well as a lot of feeling
down his left leg and some
feeling on his right leg. He says
his doctors are optimistic that
things can continue to prog-
ress, since his injury had to do
mainly with compression of the
spinal cord rather than it being
severed. So, any help he can
get is big.
Monster Energy/Yamalube/
Chaparral Yamaha's Chad
Reed might be calling it a
career, despite a stated desire
earlier this year to go after a
couple of records, including
becoming the oldest guy to
win a 450SX main event, and
starting the most 450SX main
events. The latter of the two is a
record held by Mike LaRocco,
and it would take until close to
the middle of the 2018 season
Briefly...
Adam Cianciarulo,
the 250SX main-event
winner, came three
points shy of winning
the 250SX East
Championship. Just
13 points separated
the top four riders.
