Tuff Blocks in a bowl turn. Dungey
needed every bit of skill he had
not to fall, and Tomac began
to sprint off. Within a few laps,
though, Dungey began gaining
on Tomac, as did the rest of the
field. Tomac was baiting Dungey,
knowing he couldn't win the title
if Dungey cruised it on in for sec-
ond place.
"Yeah, so, in my position, I was
for nearly the entire year since
Honda's Ken Roczen exited the
series at round three, and with
that speed, Tomac had a strategy.
And he implemented it.
At the start of the main event,
Dungey got the holeshot, but
Tomac was on him right away
and took a shot at Dungey as
he passed his way into the lead,
standing Dungey up next to the
450SX
Nine points sat between leader
Dungey and challenger Tomac
coming into the final night of rac-
ing of the 2017 Monster Energy
AMA Supercross Series. That
meant that if Tomac took the
win, Dungey would have to finish
fourth or better to win the cham-
pionship. Tomac had been the
