VOL. 54 ISSUE 18 MAY 9, 2017 P35 cal fitness back." The Russian, Bobryshev, is currently fourth in the champion- ship. Third in the championship, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's Gautier Paulin was fifth overall (7-7). In the MX2 division, there was another first-time winner—Rock- star Energy Husqvarna's Thomas Kjer Olsen. The youngster was impressive in the sand, as he won Saturday's qualifier and the first moto on Sunday. He started the second moto off in eighth and worked his way up to sec- ond to snatch the overall victory away from home favorite Pauls Jonass (Red Bull KTM), who went 3-1 for second overall. "I worked my way up through the pack and I'm pretty happy with my riding, I just stayed con- sistent all moto," said Olsen after his GP-clinching second moto. "It was so tough out there, so I was trying to make no mistakes and ride smooth. I'm so happy with how things turned out. Last year I won here in the European Championship, it is pretty crazy that I win the GP this year." Jonass wanted to win in front of the home crowd but was happy to take second and more importantly extend his points lead over Jeremy Seewer, who passed Jonass in the first moto to get second. But a crash in the second moto that ultimately made Seewer's Suzuki unride- able, hurt him in the champion- ship. Seewer now trails Jonass by 42 points. Third overall on the day was The Netherlands' Calvin Vlaan- deran, followed by Spain's Jorge Prado (KTM). Conrad Mewse (Hus) was fifth overall. Darian Sanayei (Kawasaki) was the top American finisher after going 7-7 for eighth overall. Thomas Covington (Husqvarna) went 6-17 for 11th overall. CN MXGP 1. Jeffrey Herlings (KTM) 1-1 2.
