50 Years Ago May 18, 1967
We ran a photo of Southern California road racer Lance Weil on the cover,
saying Weil "dazzles the European road racing fans with phenomenal style."
The photo was to accompany our road racing coverage… We profiled another
California road racer Buddy Parriott who was once a vice-mayor of the City of
Industry… Dan Haaby was the lone survivor from the "BSA Wrecking Crew" at
the Ascot Half-Mile; Sammy Tanner and Ralph White were knocked out in the
qualifiers, while Haaby went on to win.
40 Years Ago May 11, 1977
A classic photo of Roger DeCoster was pictured on the cover 40 years ago
to accompany our multi-part story entitled: The Roger DeCoster Story. It was
written by John Huetter and is still a great read if you want to know how "The
Man" became a five-time World MX Champion and a legend in the sport… We
covered the Imola 200 won by Kenny Roberts, but the victory was marred by
the death of American Pat Evans… We featured a story on Ted Mondale, the
MX-racing son of vice president Walter Mondale.

Team Rainey Yamaha's Wayne Rainey, Norifumi Abe and Sete Gibernau
were featured on the cover 20 years ago to accompany our interview with
Rainey, who opened up about his life and his team… We reported the
passing of Dudley Perkins Jr… Jeff Emig took control of the Supercross
Championship after scoring a big win at the Dallas Supercross. He increased
his points lead to 13 over Jeremy McGrath with one race left; Kevin Windham
clinched the 125cc West Region Championship… We interviewed road racer
Thomas Stevens.
