IN THE WIND P54 PIKES PEAK GETS LIVE STREAM T he 95th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will be live-streamed in new ap- proach to the world's greatest hill climb. "Despite the PPIHC's 100-year history, this prestigious event has been previously broadcast on a delayed basis," a release from the Pikes Peak race organizers, said. "The uniquely challenging envi- ronment on Pikes Peak, until now, thwarted all attempts to produce the high-quality live broadcast that the race and its fans deserve. After a long and exhaustive search to find the right broadcast partner, the PPIHC began working closely with SBI Media (Matchsports' Swiss Parent). Those involved in this partnership have spent the past 12 months developing a solu- tion to the technical challenges Pikes Peak presents so live coverage can include the entire race course from start to finish. The first year of the partnership will see the PPIHC live-streamed using revolutionary production techniques. Beyond that, the long-term goal of attracting an additional partner in a major TV network to assist in sharing the race with new audiences will be pursued. The 95th running of the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will be the first event on Matchsports' IPTV global calendar." On a side note, this year also marks the second time Cycle News will tackle the race with Road Test Editor Rennie Scay- sbrook. Scaysbrook took Rookie of the Year and fourth overall last year and will, once again, partner with KTM USA on a 1290 Super Duke R, this time with teammate Chris Fillmore. CN KILL BIKE THIEVES F ormer Top Gear TV Show host James May has come up with a novel way of dealing with motorcycle thieves—kill them. May came up with the comments in a column on the drivetribe website, stating that while he was opposed to state-sponsored murder, he found there could be an exception for those who decide to liberate us from our motorcycles. "We must deal with the problem of bike thieves at its source, by killing them," May wrote. "It makes me shudder to write that. I, like any civilized person, am vehemently opposed to capital punishment and any other form of state-sponsored murder. Justice should not admit a public's thirst for pure revenge. But that's not what's happening here. I have arrived at this conclusion not through knee-jerk reaction or impotent fury, but by a pure and unadulterated process of logic. They have to be killed." CN Normally rather reserved, May's comments have caused quite a stir. We will have the link to watch the 95th running of this great race soon and will share it with you right here in Cycle News.
