P136 50 Years Ago May 11, 1967 We caught the spirit of trail riding when we ran a photo of off-road enthusiasts Sandi and Roy Taylor in a canyon near Calico, California… We covered the fourth annual Tri-State Classic Scrambles at Sprockets Raceway in Bakersfield, California. Bultaco Pursang-mounted Wid Payne blew them all away… Evel Knievel and his "cohorts" held a two-hour motorcycle stunt show at Ascot Park; the show included a ramp-to-ramp jump over a semi truck and trailer that Knievel, of course, had no troubles making… Kawasaki revealed photos of its new A 7 Avenger, C 2 SS Roadrunner and A 1 SS Samura. 40 Years Ago May 4, 1977 Our cover story 40 years ago was the AFM 6-Hour road race from Willow Springs. Wes Cooley Jr. was pictured on the cover because he and partner Tony Murphy came away with the win… In Herman, Nebraska, Bob Hannah returned to his winning ways in the AMA 250 National MX Championship. He won both motos… We took a close-up look at the soon-to-be released Harley- Davidson 250 MX, which was being manufactured and assembled in Italy, not Milwaukee… Larry Roeseler and John Rutten teamed up to win the Las Vegas 400. 20 Years Ago April 30, 1997 The AMA Superbike National was our cover story 20 years ago, and Kawasaki's Doug Chandler was featured on the cover for nabbing the win… Mick Doohan won the Japanese Grand Prix… John Kocinski won a wet World Superbike round at Misano… Kevin Windham became the seventh different rider of the year to win a Supercross, his first of the year coming at Charlotte Motor Speedway… Ty Davis won the Jericho National Hare & Hound in Utah… Alan Cathcart tested the Ducati ST2 Sport Tourer.
