Ryan Dungey is a three-time 450SX
Supercross champ for a reason. He
has learned to handle the pres-
sure. And it definitely is something
he learned. Anyone who watched
Dungey come apart against Jason
Lawrence in 2008 should already
know this. Dungey used to be very
antsy and unpredictable in pressure
situations. Now, obviously, he isn't.
And if he weren't likely retiring at
the end of this year, his steadiness
could remain a thorn in the side of
Tomac, (hopefully) Roczen, and
everyone else in the 450SX class
for many years to come.
In New Jersey, Dungey was the
fastest qualifier in the daytime, and

Series—Dungey came into the race
trailing in the championship for the
first time since Ken Roczen exited
the series at round three. Tomac—
winner of nine main events so far
this year—was up by three points.
For whatever reason, the Eli
Tomac that won nine of the 15
rounds prior to this one failed to
show up in New Jersey. It's now
Dungey's championship to lose in
Las Vegas.
As for the 250SX East, initially
it appeared that Monster Energy/
Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Joey Savatgy
salvaged a solid seven-point lead
heading to the Vegas finale, but
a penalty officially issued by the
AMA the following day for cutting
the track dropped him five spots
in the official race results and he
and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's
Zach Osborne are now tied at 159
