FIM MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 3 / APRIL 22-23, 2017
CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS / AUSTIN, TEXAS
P70
MOTO3
With Aron Canet (EG Honda)
utterly dominant in qualifying, all
but a full second clear, it looked
like it would be a benefit for the
17-year-old Spaniard, especially
when he took off from the start,
and took a lead of better than a
second over points leader Joan
Mir after two laps.
Then the red flags came out
after rookie Toba crashed in a
dangerous place, and the advan-
tage was lost.
The race was cut by six laps
for the restart, and the second
attempt was different for Canet.
This time Romano Fenati (Ri-
vacold Honda) led lap one, and
though Canet was ahead on the
second and third, he couldn't
shake off the Italian, and then
he flew over the high-side in the
attempt.
Fenati won here last year, and
now he showed why, pulling
steadily clear of a growing brawl
to cross the line 4.5 seconds
clear. Sacked from the Rossi/
KTM last year, his switch to
Honda reinforced his rehabilita-
tion, with Honda's continuing
domination of the class, taking
the next three places, and with
six of them in the top eight.
With a couple of laps to go,
Romano Fenati
followed up his
Moto3 win here last
year with another
victory.
