P120 50 Years Ago April 20, 1967 Our cover story 50 years ago was the District 37 Scrambles Championship at Elsinore, California… We covered road racing action from Cotati Raceway… We also covered the Rough Championship at Lucerne Valley, California. The race was filmed for television by ABC-TV, and so many riders showed up that the race had to be delayed an hour so they all could get signed up. J.N. Roberts was the star of the day, as he rode to victory with the TV helicopter following him the whole way. 40 Years Ago April 13, 1977 Bob "Hurricane" Hannah was pictured flying through the air indoors under the air-supported roof of the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. Hannah swept the Pontiac Supercross doubleheader. After the race, Hannah, on his own doing, raffled off his winning YZ250D… Skip Aksland took to the streets of Long Beach, California, and won the 76-mile race that was run as part of the Long Beach Grand Prix for cars… Tom Brooks was the big winner of the Great Bear GP at Riverside International Raceway. 20 Years Ago April 9, 1997 Photographer Kinney Jones caught Ezra Lusk getting the early jump at the Orlando Supercross inside the Citrus Bowl. Lusk went on to win the 250cc main event… We previewed the 1997 World Championship Road Race Series… We featured an interview with motocrosser Damon Bradshaw who was getting back into racing again after having left the factory Yamaha team and going into retirement. Now, he was going to go at it alone as a Honda-riding privateer… Scott Summers rode his Honda XR600 to victory at the Cross Anchor GNCC in South Carolina.
