50 Years Ago April 20, 1967
Our cover story 50 years ago was the District 37 Scrambles Championship
at Elsinore, California… We covered road racing action from Cotati Raceway…
We also covered the Rough Championship at Lucerne Valley, California. The
race was filmed for television by ABC-TV, and so many riders showed up that the
race had to be delayed an hour so they all could get signed up. J.N. Roberts
was the star of the day, as he rode to victory with the TV helicopter following him
the whole way.
40 Years Ago April 13, 1977
Bob "Hurricane" Hannah was pictured flying through the air indoors under the
air-supported roof of the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. Hannah swept the
Pontiac Supercross doubleheader. After the race, Hannah, on his own doing,
raffled off his winning YZ250D… Skip Aksland took to the streets of Long
Beach, California, and won the 76-mile race that was run as part of the Long
Beach Grand Prix for cars… Tom Brooks was the big winner of the Great Bear
GP at Riverside International Raceway.
20 Years Ago April 9, 1997
Photographer Kinney Jones caught Ezra
Lusk getting the early jump at the Orlando Supercross inside the Citrus
Bowl. Lusk went on to win the 250cc main event… We previewed the 1997
World Championship Road Race Series… We featured an interview with
motocrosser Damon Bradshaw who was getting back into racing again after
having left the factory Yamaha team and going into retirement. Now, he was
going to go at it alone as a Honda-riding privateer… Scott Summers rode his
Honda XR600 to victory at the Cross Anchor GNCC in South Carolina.

30 Years Ago April 15, 1987
The Endurance-racing season got underway and Team Hammer/Suzuki was
pictured on the cover for getting the win in Georgia… In Dallas, Ricky Johnson
won the eighth round of the AMA/Coors Supercross Series; Kyle Lewis won
the 125cc class… Chris Carr had little trouble winning the Sacramento Mile,
which was the opening round of the GNC Dirt Track Series… Randy Mamola
won the opening round of the World Championship Road Race Series at
Suzuka over Wayne Gardner and Takumi Ito…
Paul Krause won the Moapa-to-Vegas National
Hare & Hound.
