IN THE WIND P64 CODY WEBB QUALIFIES FIRST F ollowing the brand new ISDE Regional Qualifier Series, rac- ers have gone to three different states with three completely dif- ferent sets of challenges on each side of the country. While the six East riders have already been qualified in Florida, South Caro- lina and Georgia, and are getting their team processes started, the West series is whittling it down to the best of the "left coast." The west series finale was hosted by Lobos MC at Wash- ougal MX Park, April 1-2. The course featured a cross test and enduro test, both ran three times each over two days, with rains starting mid-day on day one. The cross test featured the national MX track as the start with another three miles of grass track to finish it out. The enduro test was a mix of short grass sections, moun- tains, woods, rocks and elevation to offer a one-of-a kind north western racing experience. Blais Racing's Ben Meza and Brendan Crow made the long trek from Southern California to wrap up the series. The two carded 11th and 15th for the season, respec- tively, and were very excited to race in new places. "I honestly don't know what I was doing in the mud. Just did everything I could not to fall, but it was awe- some," Meza said after finishing eighth LOI (Letter of intent) on Sunday. FMF/KTM's Cody Webb was a top contender in the opening round in Southern California but after crashing out of round two in Idaho, he put it all together at the finale in Washougal. He won both days outright, topping almost every test of the week- end, claiming top honors for the series. "It was definitely slippery on Saturday. It got a lot nicer on Sunday and was really good." Webb said. "I'll be in Tennessee in May, for sure." Oakridge, Oregon's Devan Bolin and Seattle, Washington's Anthonee Gibbs both had slow starts at the much faster season opener but were odds-on favor- ites for top spots at the mountain- ous finale. Bolin and Gibbs kept Webb honest and finished sec- ond and third, respectively, both earning themselves a chance to represent the U.S. ISDE Team. Justin Morgan, who took the win on day one of the Idaho round, missed out on the Wash- ington round while racing the SCORE International San Felipe 250 (where he finished second overall). Nick Stover, day two win- ner in Idaho, dropped to the fifth and final qualifying spot. Burthoud, Colorado's Rick Emerson won three of four days needed to qualify for the Senior team and will be joining Brian Storrie in France. The third Senior team rider, along with five more club team riders, will be determined at the Tennes- see Three-Day Qualifier hosted by Full Gas Sprint Enduro May 12-14. CN DAY 1: 1.
