IN THE WIND P60 DESTRY ABBOTT RACES AGAIN! I t was a milestone weekend for Purvines DA8 Racing Opera- tions Director and professional racer, Destry Abbott. Abbott is at every WORCS round with the team, helping them out along the way, but this weekend was different. He actually compet- ed—and won—the 30+ class. "This was honestly a last- second decision for me to race," said Abbott, a 10-time desert- racing champion. "Both of my kids were racing and my wife, Charlotte, made the trip so I figured it'd be a good comeback race." The Las Vegas WORCS race marked Abbott's first race back since being diagnosed with Leu- kemia, and his first time racing on his Purvines Yamaha. "I loved every minute racing the Yamaha; they're really great bikes," Abbott said. "I was able to grab the holeshot and lead from start to finish. The WORCS crew did a great job the en- tire weekend as did our entire Purvines DA8 Team." CN DELONG TAKES NEW JERSEY EAST HARE SCRAMBLE O ver 800 motorcyclists battled it out over the two- day period at round three of the SRT AMA East Hare Scramble Championship Series in Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, put on by the Tri County Sportsmen MC on April 1-2. The event also served as the season opener for the ECEA Hare Scramble Series. Heavy rains a few days before dumped about four inches of precipitation on the mostly sand track. Tri County Sports- men MC was busy ensuring the course held up and the trails were useable. In the end, the 10-mile course, with a mix of open fields, tight woods and sand whoops, provided an ideal backdrop for the two-hour race. When the flag dropped it was "Wild" Wally Palmer with the holeshot and leading the field into the woods. But as the pack emerged from the woods 25 minutes later, it was Ryder Laf- ferty leading the way followed by Jesse Groemm, Palmer and Craig DeLong, separat- ed by only about 10 seconds. Over the remaining three laps of the race, DeLong, Lafferty and Groemm began to pull away from the pack and engage in their own three-way battle. By the middle of the third lap, Groemm lost his rear brakes and began to fall back, leaving DeLong and Laf- ferty to challenge each other for the win. At the end, it was De- Long who took the checkered flag, leaving Lafferty to settle for second. Groemm rounded out the podium in third. Kenny Held 1. Craig DeLong (Hus) 2. Ryder Lafferty (KTM) 3.
