WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 54 ISSUE 13 APRIL 4, 2017 P77 "We rode good," Savatgy said. "Did what we had to do. Executed off the start, put ourselves in a good position and started to pull away. It seems like I want to just give these things away. So trust me, I can't even begin to explain. I was lucky enough to not go down and actually ran into a guy [when he ran off the track]. All in all, I'm frustrated, obvi- ously, but I'm very blessed. I love what I do and there're always days like this. We've had a few more than I wanted to have. We do our work during the week. Man, I know it's a broken record of mini- mizing mistakes, but I'm trying. We had a fight there; I actually ran into a lapper underneath the tunnel and knocked my front brake really far down, so I didn't even have front brake, really. So that was frustrating, but all in all we're in a good position. Go on this little break, regroup and come out swinging." Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha's Dylan Ferrandis and Geico Honda's Christian Craig rounded out the top five. Behind Craig came Savatgy's teammate Adam Cianciarulo, who started inside the top five but fell back to sixth at the finish. The points standings now show Savat- gy still leading by six points over Smith, with Osborne six points further back, and then Cianciarulo six points further back still, with only two rounds left to run. The 250SX East now takes a hiatus until the penultimate round in New Jersey on April 29. CN 450SX 1. Eli Tomac (Kaw) 2. Ryan Dungey (KTM) 3. Marvin Musquin (KTM) 4. Jason Anderson (Hus) 5. Josh Grant (Kaw) 6. Cole Seely (Hon) Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM's Alex Martin did not suit up for the St. Louis race. Martin suffered a head injury when he got booted off the track by Christian Craig during practice last week in Detroit. The team has not yet said when he might return. Trey Canard did not suit up either. The Red Bull KTM Team rider, in fact, is going to sit out the rest of the champi- onship. He's been suffering with an illness and decided to focus on getting better and returning strong for the outdoors. "I am extremely saddened to sit out the rest of the series; it has been a disappointing season for me to say the least," Canard said. "I've been dealing with severe fatigue issues and need to figure my body out so that I can race at 100 per- cent not only for myself, but for everyone who continues to support me. Competing at the level we do requires you to be at your healthiest in order to remain competitive and safe on the track. I just don't feel like I'm there and I think its best I fully recover so I can give the outdoor series my undivided attention. I want to thank everyone for being so understanding and assure those who continue to believe in me that I will do everything within my power to be at my very best as soon as possible." In the 450SX LCQ, privateer Cody Gilmore caused a red flag when he went down off the start and was hit by another rider and was later transported to the hospital. According to an Instagram post by his friend Denny Ste- phenson, Gilmore suffered "a non displaced fracture of C3 and C7 in his neck...he still has all his movement and is in good spirits, considering." Stephenson added, "He may or may not need surgery." Mike Alessi suffered a bro- ken collarbone during press day the Thursday before the race. As a result, the Smartop MotoConcepts Racing Team rider will sit out the rest of the Supercross series and pre- pare for the CMRC Canadian MX Championship, which he will compete in this summer. The Autotrader/Suzuki/ JGRMX Team announced that Cade Autenrieth will fill in for the injured Phil Nicoletti for the rest of the 250SX East Championship. Autenrieth, who turned 17 on March 30, earned his AMA Pro license through the Ricky Carmichael Road to Supercross program in the Amsoil Arenacross Se- ries. "Racing for the Autotrad- er/Yoshimura/Suzuki Team is like the ultimate birthday dream," he said. "I still can't believe that this opportunity has actually happened. His first race will be the Seattle Supercross, April 8. Briefly... cont. on page 78
