Tomac was first in timed
qualifying, but a terrible start in
his heat left him with the final
transfer spot in fourth.
But just as with last week,
where Tomac had to go to the
semi, his qualifying-race perfor-
mance didn't seem to affect his
main-event ride. When the gate
dropped for the main, Dungey
St. Louis, Dungey and Tomac
were separated by a scant seven
points.
Dungey won his heat race
on his way to the main event,
although he had to deal with a
defiant Chad Reed who cut over
on Dungey through the whoops
immediately after he passed the
champ for the lead early in the

Tensions are high, and with
every race the championship is
getting tighter. Defending 450SX
Champion Ryan Dungey has
had a tough go of it for the past
few races, with Eli Tomac taking
four wins in a row as the series
headed to St. Louis. On top of
that, two races in a row Dungey
also couldn't stop his teammate
Marvin Musquin. Coming into
Dungey did what he
needed to do and that
was to get a good start
but he couldn't take
advantage of it.
