CN III VOICES W H A T Y O U A R E S A Y I N G Daytona TT I think for a first effort, this was a good race to watch. The area in which the track was laid out was small, so you can only do so much. Chris Carr was trying to enable the fans to hear the sound of the twins winding up, so he created long straights. Unfortunately, the trade-off was hairpin turns. I'm sure next year will see mods that will allow for more of a sweeper, but don't expect anything too exciting because of the limited space. I've read posts with people complaining about the quick left- right before the turn. Again, lim- ited space, but I am sure this will be improved before next year. I also read about a reference to the Ascot TT. There will never be another TT as great as Ascot, period. As great as Peoria is, with the exception of the jump, even it falls short in comparison to Ascot. I don't understand all the negativity about Daytona. It can, and probably will be improved. But even if it stays the same, it's another race for us in the flat track community. And lastly, every rider interview that I witnessed was positive. That speaks volumes. Dan Henry I have been a fan of flat track racing since I was old enough to take the front fender off my tricycle. I am a positive person. I love the sport. After going to the Daytona TT yesterday, I have never been so upset. The track was horrible. The corners were hairpins. The riders had to almost stop to get around the turns. I love how they are running the twins on the TTs again, trying to get the sport back to what it used to be. And the riders are great, everyone in the sport are wonderful people. How they could let this happen is beyond me. It wasn't fair to the riders or the people who spent money expecting a good show. It's really upsetting to me. Conrats to Jared for the win, we do still have some great riders. David Cunningham Daytona TT: Awesome! It was great racing and a great crowd. [The Daytona TT] could be a winner! Two suggestions: 1. Figure out how to restart races after a tumble in a lot less than 30 minutes. It used to be done. 2. Build a real jump, not a sleep- ing policeman—think Houston Astrodome. Chris Dutton The racing was exciting, the twins were awesome. I enjoyed it all. Perfect? No. Was I en- tertained? Absolutely. Looking forward to Woodstock. Haters stay home. Greg Tysor Daytona 200 No offense to Michael Barnes, but when you have a 48-year-old retired racer is on pole, some- thing is wrong. This race used to get the best in the world. The racing itself was pretty good, but with guys getting lapped on lap eight, it looked more like a glorified club race. Not one of the announcers knew that the leaders had pitted on lap 40, which is kind of weird because the cameras were on the leaders almost the whole race. To top it off, the second-place finisher gets disqualified for an illegal air filter. I made it through the whole race, but even though I live for this stuff, I almost quit watching to go out and cut the grass. Paul Trautman Havasu WORCS Just a short note to say how much I enjoyed reading Harlen Foley's story this year. I would also like to congratulate him on finding the perfect place to photograph the racers and spectators. If you compare last week's Captured page with the Captured page from a year ago, I think you will see a nearly identi- cal photo. The only difference, as I remember it, would be that the spectators in last year's pic- ture were wearing bikinis! Thanks again for another great issue.
