n his 14th year of racing the
MXGPs, many had written off
Red Bull KTM's Antonio Cairoli
after a couple of less-than-spec-
tacular seasons—at least by his
standards. He was determined
in the off-season to return to
his former glory, especially with
his team moving much-hyped
Jeffrey Herlings up from MX2 to
compete for the championship
in the premier class.
Cairoli qualified second on
Friday behind defending MXGP
World Champ Tim Gajser (Team
HRC Honda), but on race day,
he left nothing to chance, grab-
bing the holeshot and leading
