by one point, and is a proven
250SX winner. Most assumed
he'd be the guy to beat, and as it
turns out, he was. He was ready
for that pressure.
Savatgy qualified second
during the day, about a half-
second behind Rockstar Energy
Husqvarna's Zach Osborne, and
all hell broke loose at the start
of the main event. TLD Red Bull
KTM's Jordon Smith took the
early lead while teammate Alex
Martin had his second bit of bad
luck for the night when he went
down on the outside of the first
turn. Two turns later, Yamalube
Star Racing Yamaha's Colt Nich-
ols and KTM privateer Dakota
Alix touched rear wheels in the air
while battling over second place
and went down spectacularly.

250SX EAST
Monster Energy Pro Circuit
Kawasaki's Joey Savatgy came
into the Minneapolis Supercross
with a kind of pressure he hadn't
experienced yet; for the first
time so far in his career, Savatgy
came into a series as the likely
favorite to win. Savatgy was sec-
ond in points in the 2016 250SX
West, losing to Cooper Webb
Jordon Smith
(44) grabbed
the holeshot in
the first 250SX
East final of the
year. He was
impressive in his
first outing on
his new Red Bull
KTM team.
