IN THE WIND P34 HELL'S GATE ENDURO: JARVIS DOES IT AGAIN! F or the fifth time, Graham Jarvis (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing) took the win at the Hell's Gate Hard Enduro, the first round of the 2017 World Hard Enduro Series (WHES), in Il Ciocco, Luca (Ita- lia), February 19. South African riders Travis Teasdale (KTM) and Wade Young (Sherco) completed the podium. Mario Roman was fourth ahead of Austrian Phillipp Bertl. "It's been a great event for me," Jarvis said. "Winning the morning qualifying race was a bit of a surprise. I just made sure I didn't make any mistakes and that was good enough to get the win. In the main race, I got a good start but dropped behind Wade Young, who was running a really strong pace. He had some kind of a problem then, which allowed me to get ahead. I just kept a steady pace going then and things worked out great. There were a lot more manmade sections this year, which isn't really my thing. But to get a fifth Hell's Gate win is great." CN 1. Phillipp Bertl (Bet) INDUSTRY HEADS TESTIFY AGAINST MOTORCYCLE TARIFF A proposed 100 percent tariff on European motorcycles still has a lot of motorcycle indus- try executives wringing their hands. A number of executives from the AMA, KTM/Husqvarna, MIC, Piaggio Group, MX Sports and others joined forces in Washington D.C. on February 15, where they testi- fied before a federal trade committee, asking that motorcycles be removed from the list of products included in the proposed tariff. The tariff, directed at motorcycles between 51 and 500cc from Europe, could seriously affect, and/or devastate business for brands such as Aprilia, Beta, BMW, Ducati, Fantic, GasGas, Husqvarna, KTM, Montesa, Piaggio, Scorpa, Sherco, TM and Vespa in the United States. "American motorcyclists are unnecessarily caught in the crossfire of this completely unrelated trade dis- pute," Dingman said during a public hearing of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative's Section 301 Committee. "Since my organization represents motorcycle-riding consumers, I can objectively and without vested commercial interest, assure you that this action will do more harm to individual Americans than it will to leverage the European Union." Others who testified included Carroll Gittere, president of Powersports Data Solutions; Iain Mc- Phie and Ritchie Thomas of Squire Patton Boggs; John Hinz, president of KTM North America and Husqvarna Motorcycles North America; Mario di Ma- ria, president and CEO of Piaggio Group Americas; Rick Alcon, owner of R&S Powersports Group; Tim Cotter, vice president of MX Sports and Tim Bu- che, president and CEO of the Motorcycle Industry Council. Motorcyclists sent more than 10,300 emails to Congress on this issue, posted more than 9400 comments to Regulations.gov and sent nearly 5300 emails to President Donald Trump. Of the comments sent via Regulations.gov, 82 percent came from motorcyclists. CN Graham Jarvis grabbed his fifth win at the Hell's Gate Hard Enduro in Italy. PHOTOGRAPHY BY HUSQVARNA MOTORCYCLES
