CN III VOICES LETTERS TO THE EDITOR "Somebody needs to put on their big-boy pants, cop to the screw-up, fall on his sword…" HALL OF FAME Why is everybody surprised that the AMA has bungled the Hall of Fame induction of Nobby Clark? I disowned the AMA in 1979 after participating in their dirt track program when they were running that program into the ground. The AMA has been a bungling organization for a long time. Why do they even have anything to do with the Hall of Fame? That should be a private organization. I think Cycle News is a better we're a motorcycle family. Gene Romero Via the Internet Romero is the 1970 AMA Grand National Champion and a Hall of Famer… Editor HALL OF FAME III Kudos to Dave Despain (and now Dick Mann/Kenny Roberts) for standing up and speaking out against an (obviously) flawed nominating system. organization than AMA. It is a shame that many of the Hall of Famers are not even recognized in today's overall sports world due to the AMA's lack of ability to promote the sport on TV. Via the Internet HALL OF FAME II Rescinding Nobby Clark's induction into the Hall Of Fame is like giving a first-place trophy to the winner and then taking it back two weeks later. How embarrassing and disrespect- ful. That's not what we do. Please re-induct Nobby Clark into the AMA Hall of Fame and preferably with an apology. If you choose not to re-induct Clark into the AMA Hall of Fame, I will ask Kenny Roberts and the team if I may join them in riding away from the AMA and into the sun- set. Please reconsider this an absurd blunder. Remember, Chas Smith rials. You know that I am a dirt guy and do not get much into the road thing, so sometimes I don't delve much into those stories. However, I really enjoyed P16 all the details on both sides, I'm sure there are a few "angels with tarnished halos" in the HoF already and the system didn't stop them from induction. Nobody's perfect in this world. Somebody needs to put on their big-boy pants, cop to the screw-up, fall on his sword, and move away quietly while other, more sensible and ratio- nal folks clean up this mess. We don't need this debacle to be the asterisk on all our legends and history - we need it preserved and maintained for future generations. If that doesn't come to pass, While I don't profess to know I'll ask for my $39 back from the AMA and I'll donate it to the Trailblazers. Bruce Laidlaw Via Facebook CARRUTHERS SAYS… I know that as an editor you like to have meat behind your edito- your slice-of-life story of the garage Grand National Champi- onship from your youth. There have been selected moto articles that have rekindled the memories of youth. I think that there might be enjoyment for more of this type of article. Hopefully, you could write more and find an outlet. Cliff Ramney Via the Internet BEATING A DEAD HORSE I know I'm just beating a dead horse, but while watching the outdoor Motocross Nationals they advertised the TV sched- ule, which is verified here in Cycle News, and they show the next outdoor National MX will be aired (both first motos) on Saturday, August 11 at 10 a.m. on Fuel, then both second motos will not be shown until Tuesday, August 14 at 1 p.m. on NBC Sports. Oh, come on! There has to be a better way to show these races. I'd even settle for combining both motos for one class and having them shown the next day or week, but to continue separating the races like this is just silly!
