SUPERCROSS ROUND 5 / FEBRUARY 4, 2017 OAKLAND ALAMEDA COLISEUM / OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA P58 MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES a lot throughout the racing pro- gram, creating opportunities for Tomac as very few racers were able to remain even relatively mistake-free in the 20-minute- plus-one-lap main event. Tomac caught up to fifth by lap three, then zapped Ander- son for fourth just after Honda's Cole Seely did likewise (for third place) by lap seven. It wasn't long before Tomac pushed Seely back to fourth again, then began either, as Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's Jason Anderson and Red Bull KTM's Ryan Dungey fought for the lead off the start, with fast qualifier (and heat-race winner) Webb just be- hind them. Tomac was mid-pack at best, and it was a tough group of guys to have out front with a clear track while he had to work his way through the field. However, the track was ex- tremely difficult and broke down wasn't all that fast in daytime qualifying—which was actu- ally topped by Monster Energy Yamalube Chaparral Yamaha's Cooper Webb with over a sec- ond and a half to spare—and he struggled to sixth place in his heat race. He won his semi, but had the 10th gate pick in the main event (although it should've been the ninth pick, see Briefly). Things weren't looking up a whole lot in the main event, Rookie Cooper Webb is looking better and better. He got on the 450SX podium for the first time of his career.
