F
ormer Moto2 World Champion Tito
Rabat's second season in the big
class got off to a nightmare start after
a heavy crash on the second test day
of testing at Sepang sent him straight
home to Spain for surgery.
Rabat broke his right radius (fore-
arm) bone, requiring a screw fixing;
a bone in his right hand, which was
screwed and plated; and a bone in his
right foot, which was immobilized.
Yet doctors said the potentially
most troublesome injury was to his
left knee, where the loss of a lot of
skin left him prone to infection, and
under careful observation.
Rabat ended up slowest of 28
racers in the final times, with Estrella
Galicia/Marc VDS teammate Jack
Miller 17th.

M
oto2 Champion Johann Zarco came out
top of four rookies in the class, the new
Monster Yamaha rider placing an impressive
11th overall on day three, with new Suzuki
rider Alex Rins one place and less than three
tenths slower. Zarco's best time was only
four tenths off Vinales' leading time.
Second satellite Yamaha rider Jonas Fol-
ger also made a strong start, placing 15th,
less than a second down on Vinales. New
Aprilia rider Sam Lowes was 23rd; his team-
mate Aleix Espargaro 13th after his switch
from Suzuki.
KTM riders Pol Espargaro and Bradley
Smith reported plenty of work to do on the
new V4s, placing 21st and 22nd.
