P112 50 Years Ago February 9, 1967 "Who, what, when, where"— and the same can still be said 50 years later. It's what Cycle News was all about and still is…. We reported that 300 Yamaha dealers met in Las Vegas to be introduced to seven new models; sales of Ya- maha motorcycles had doubled every year since Yamaha started importing the brand to the U.S. in 1958… Indoor short track racing in Long Beach, Califor- nia, was still going strong… One of our feature stories was our coverage of the Ponderosa desert scrambles. 40 Years Ago February 9, 1977 We had a little bit of everything—MX, speedway, flat track, test bikes—on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago… John Hately was the big winner at the Houston TT held inside the Astrodome, and Jay Springsteen topped the short track at the traditional Houston doubleheader… We race-tested the Maico AW-250 motocrosser. We said it was a world-class race bike that will make you a better racer. It retailed for $1784… We checked in with the progress of Ken Maely's American-built race engine for speedway. 20 Years Ago February 5, 1997 We reported that, with less than three months before the start of the 1997 World Championship Road Race Series, Marlboro had dropped its sponsor- ship with the factory Yamaha/Wayne Rainey Team after a 15-year run… Jeff Emig became the third different winner of the AMA Supercross Series when he topped the Arizona round at Sun Devil Stadium… We reported that long- time Kawasaki MX/SX team manger Roy Turner was leaving the team… Alan Cathcart tested the Triumph T509 Speed Triple.
