a~~a~~~~~a CMC's Ascot TT& Han Mile By Art Friedman GARDENA, CAL., NOV. 30 Dave Aldana stalled his Bultaco just before the flag fell for his Half-mile heat. He raised his hand, but it was too late. The flag dropped and the field roared away leaving Aldana pushing his bike, dead last. By lap two he'd caught the last few riders and started passing them in bunches of four or five at a time. By themselves the other riders seemed to be going pretty fast, but Aldana would pass them at a speed that wasn't even similar, on an irregular line, with the style that only he can show. . "My God," said somebody. - "I once tried riding fJa t track," someone else volunteered. "When both my wheels began to slide, I got so scared I nearly pinched a hole in the seat." He caught every rider except one_ He only needed one more lap, but time ran out. There was plen ty of time for David in the Main and he ran it around, wide open, for an easy win. The IT portion of the program worked the other way for Aldana on a Windy Briggs Kawasaki. He had to deal with John Hateley on a Maico. It looked like he was going to do in "Little John", too, after their respective heat wins. Aldana took the lead quickly, gassing it all over the place, seemingly beyond the bounds of possibility as he threw the Fiery-eyed John Hateley won the CMC's foray into Ascot TT on a Cooper sponsored 501 Maico.
