When I got around Austin, I had so much ground to make up. He made me earn it until the very last lap. When I saw the white flag, I'm like 'No way did I just do this.'" Rockstar Energy Husqvar- na's Martin Davalos won his heat race but had to settle for fifth in the main event, just in front of Plessinger's team- mate Dan Reardon. Then came Munn Husqvarna's Josh Hansen, Geico Honda's Jimmy Decotis, JGR Suzuki's Phil Ni- coletti and the rest of the field. Decotis's teammate Jeremy Martin had to sit out the night show after suffering a concus- sion in practice in a collision with Tyler Bowers. Bowers suf- fered a fractured femur in the incident.CN Healing Up: MotoConcepts Honda's Mike Alessi made his return to action in Arizona after his big crash at Ana- heim I left him with a concussion and some internal bruising. Also, Red Bull KTM's Trey Canard is back riding again, but he's taking it slow at first. He could be back as soon as Oak- land. Kenny made a small, little mistake that was really, really costly. Ryan [Dungey]'s won three titles for a reason. Every year, we're seeing red plates on the 94, but it's a 17-race se- ries. It's a shame to lose Kenny this early." The question was then reiterat- ed again with emphasis to "crowning Dungey," at which point Dungey had had enough. "Nobody handed me anything," Dungey said, understand- ably agitated. "There was no crown. When the championship's done, and the guy's holding the number-one plate, that's when—nobody crowned anybody last week. And we lost a very valuable rider for our sport, too. None of us up here take it lightly, and it humbled all of us because it can happen like that to anybody." Reed added: "It really can. It can happen like that. You see somebody who is riding with such confidence and at the top of his game, and in a split sec- ond it's over. I'm sure all of you have seen the pictures that he's posted, Briefly... 250SX WEST HIGHLIGHTS
