IN THE WIND P44 SX INJURY REPORT T he Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series lost a few more of its riders at the Arizona Supercross, January 28, includ- ing Tyler Bowers and Weston Peick, and most likely Jeremy Martin. In the second practice ses- sion of the day, Bowers (51Fifty Energy Yamaha) went down in a rhythm section, and Martin (Geico Honda) had nowhere to go. Bowers' bike clipped Martin's head, sending Martin careening off the track and landing awkwardly on his head. Martin broke his visor in the incident, but still got up and put in his fastest time of the session (a 1:03.680, the second-fastest time overall in the session). When Martin got back to the pits, however, it became ap- parent that he had suffered a concussion, because he didn't know where he was. Martin had to sit out the night due to concussion protocol. There is a chance that he will have to miss the next round in Oakland. Bowers suffered a fractured femur in the fall (he's broken both of his femurs before, and has rods in both legs). Peick (JGR Suzuki) had a big get-off in the first practice ses- sion and was carted off by the Alpinestars Mobile Medic crew with a wrist injury, most likely a fracture or dislocation, so he will probably have to sit out for a while, too. Jake Weimer is already filling in for the JGR Suzuki team for the injured Justin Barcia, who may be back in action next week in Oakland. Steve Cox ROCZEN ON THE MEND K en Roczen (Honda HRC), who had that massive crash at last week's Anaheim II Super- cross and suffered a compound fracture to his radius (arm) and dislocated both his wrist and elbow, is being cared for at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colora- do, under the care of Dr. Randall Viola, who is the team physician for the Men's U.S. Alpine Ski Team and a medical consultant for the Denver Broncos. Roczen has already undergone three surgeries and has at least one more on his calendar for this week. "This obviously isn't the way I was hoping the supercross sea- son would go, but I've accepted the challenge and am putting all of my effort into getting healthy again," said Roczen. "I want to thank everyone at The Stead- man Clinic, and specifically Dr. Viola and 'Team Viola' for all the care. It's great knowing I have the best people possible helping me through this. The support from my fans and the industry on social media has been incredible too. I espe- cially want to thank my team at Honda, which has truly become like a family, and of course my other partners who have been behind me 100 percent. I look forward to getting back to racing as soon as possible." In a recent Instagram post, Roczen said, "I am excited and positive I can get this wing just as strong again with my crew." As far as when Roczen might be able to ride again, no time- table has been set. CN Ken Roczen will need at least four surgeries before the real healing can begin. Roczen has been keeping everyone updated with his progress via his Instagram account.
