WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 54 ISSUE 2 JANUARY 17, 2017 P45
After the track was drenched in rain most of
the week prior to the event inside Petco Park,
the dirt was much improved over the previous
week, and unlike at Anaheim I, Roczen had to
fight for it in San Diego.
The same was true for 250cc winner Shane
McElrath (TLD/Red Bull KTM). Anaheim I
marked his first-ever supercross main-event
victory, but he just wanted to forget about it
and look forward to San Diego, since he also
knew Anaheim I was prone to flukes. Frankly
put, McElrath didn't want to be a statistic.

R
ound one of the Monster Energy AMA
Supercross Series is often a poor
indicator of how the rest of the series
will go. Ken Roczen won Anaheim 1 in 2014
(on a Red Bull KTM) and 2015 (on an RCH
Suzuki RM-Z450), but Roczen won few races
after that both seasons. So, although Honda's
wunderkind dominated round one, there was
a lot of pressure to back it up at round two in
San Diego and prove it wasn't a fluke.
Ken Roczen ran off with
another win in San Diego.
