lead on the first lap, I just rode
my own race."
Sutherlin returned to WORCS
after taking most of 2016 off due
to illness. Sutherlin, who had run
his own privateer effort for many
years, comes into 2017 as a
member of Destry Abbott's new
Purvines Racing Factory Yamaha
Team.
"It's been a long road back,"
said Sutherlin. "I think a lot
of people forgot about me or
doubted me, so it's nice to show
that I'm back and I'm ready to
contend for this championship.
It's just a matter of getting my
body perfect and giving Taylor
a run. I'm on the new YZ450FX
"I passed Gary on the first
lap in the off-road section,"
said Robert. "I had some really
good lines and passed him on
the outside of one of the turns.
I had two get-offs about halfway
through. I think I just got lazy
because I was riding by myself.
Luckily the sand is really soft out
there, so I just rolled off and got
back going.
"I'm really excited to be back
at the WORCS races, especially
this race," added Robert. "Mes-
quite has always been my favor-
ite because of the deep sand. It
always seems that the rougher it
gets, the better I do. I didn't have
a good start, but after I took the
Taylor Robert has returned to
the WORCS series and picked up
where he left off—winning.
