SUPERCROSS ROUND 1 / JANUARY 7, 2017 ANGEL STADIUM OF ANAHEIM / ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA P60 MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 3 ELI TOMAC 5 TH 450SX Monster Energy Kawasaki's Eli Tomac showed that he has the speed to win but the dreaded arm pump got the best of him in the 450SX main. "Qualifying and the heat was good for us, then we came into the main and [I] was consistent with starts—I was excited about that. Did a little battle with Marvin there in the beginning, got into sec- ond, and tried to lay down some laps there, then I just got really, really tight halfway— arm tight. I came off the track barely breathing and my arms felt like rocks. Maybe it was because we're into race mode now, but I've done this enough that I feel like this shouldn't happen; it was weird. Definitely not stoked on it at all. I should've at least been second. I just blew up really bad. I'm being honest about it, I got arm pump. Any one who's ridden dirt bikes has experienced it, and I was just along for the ride about halfway." 1 RYAN DUNGEY 2 ND 450SX "My race was pretty decent," Dungey said of his race. "I got off to I think a fourth-, fifth-place start. Kind of needled my way through the first turn; there was a lot going on there. The riders were trying to cut down and I didn't want anybody to come under- neath me, but overall I found myself in fourth. Marvin and Eli were right ahead of me. Kenny was obviously out front. From there, I just tried to click away some laps. Pretty soon I think, Marvin and Eli started going at it, so I kind of caught up a little bit to them and was able to make the pass at some point on each of them. I could see where Kenny was and just tried to gauge where he was at. Overall I'm happy with the race. It's the first time back on the gate in a while, so it's nice to get things rolling again. No excuses at all, either, though, so I'm happy with tonight's performance." 25 MARVIN MUSQUIN 3 RD 450SX "The goal was to get a good start, obviously, and that's what I did," said Marvin Mus- quin. "I was really happy about my start. I went a little too far outside of the first turn, but I was able to be really close to Ken. Obviously I was on the outside on the second turn, so I was second and, man, I really wanted to keep my position. Those guys behind me were pushing really hard. Eli was right there, and Ryan, but it was good battle. My goal is just to do exactly what I did. I was a little bit slow in the beginning of the race, but I got better and better. Ryan got around Eli, and then he got around me, and then I was able to regroup and got better overall on the track. I was able to keep the distance with Ryan. It was a good race. To be able to get a podium here in Anaheim in the first round is big for me. I was really looking forward to it. I knew I was capable, but there's so many good guys right now and the track was tough too." 6 JEREMY MARTIN 6 TH 250SX Jeremy Martin's first supercross as a member of the Geico Honda Team had mixed results. He was fast in the qualifier, he nearly won his heat race but a bad start in the main ruined his night. "It was a bummer, didn't get the start," Martin said. "That was the biggest thing. It's not a matter of speed, fitness or anything else; it's just a matter of execution, and I just didn't get it [the start] tonight. We started the day great in practice logging the top spot in qualifying, and then felt solid in the heat race going into the main. But I made a mistake on the start in the main, which affected my whole race. Ultimately, it made me just go into damage control!" 21 JASON ANDERSON 4 TH 450SX Jason Anderson was hoping to get back-to-back A1 wins, but fourth isn't a bad way to start the season. Fourth was in his cards on the day—he was fourth in qualifying, fourth in his heat and fourth in the main. "A1 was pretty decent," said Anderson. "I struggled with setup earlier in the day but we made some changes and I was able to come through the pack to get fourth. All-in-all, it wasn't too bad."
