CN III VOICES W H A T Y O U A R E S A Y I N G "New word—Roczenation. That's what KR did to the competition." Anaheim I Supercross I think the track design was flawed—too tight at the first turn leading immediately into some jumps. The effect was to jam up the field except for the first two or three. So almost immediately the first two or three riders would open up a three-second gap. That made for poor racing. Brent Meeker Kenny's domination since the Monster Cup continues. And although he smoked the field, I think he has more speed in the bank. New word—Roczena- tion. That's what KR did to the competition. Howard Halterman Roczen is the man. Hey Husky! Stop wasting your money on Pourcel and call the Stewart compound. Good job El Hom- bre #21. Daryl Dickens Chad Reed Interview Chad is uber rich. He has noth- ing to prove. But he is still put- ting in the work and still racing at the pointy end of the field. And with a good start he can probably still bag a main-event win. The fact that he still loves the sport this much is inspiring. He's a great role model. Howard Halterman Cycle News Rider Of The Year I have a hard time reading about this year's historic winners of the Six Days and not seeing one of the all time riders of this event even mentioned. Fred Hoess has the record for [ISDE] medals and has put more into this quest than any I can think of. Not to take away from other men but to exclude a great rider like Fast Fred Hoess, I feel was an oversight. Eddie Keen Throwback: Superbikers Bad boys doing bad things on those bikes! I still remember my surprise and disappointment when Lawson passed Wardy—in the dirt! Two of the greats—Wardy is my all time favorite, though. What an event it was. Lance Gorton Throwback: Cow Palace Yes, I was a veteran to many of the Cow Palace's motorized events from mini sprint cars to motorcycles. I was lucky to meet a very young rider who came in from Modesto to race there. A certain Kenny Roberts. My cousin, friends and I used to sneak in, and carrying toolboxes or helping bump start the riders were some of the ways we could "beat the guards." Kenny once was handing out photos of himself after he rode Houston's Astrodome. I was too shy to ask for an autograph at the time. Thirty years later I brought the treasured photo with me to Laguna Seca where the man known as "King Kenny" by then was doing an exhibition ride. Sheepishly I approached Mr. Roberts and explained my acquisition of the photograph. As he signed my memento, he stated with a smile: "Well you're not so shy any more." Thanks, Kenny. Ricky Vassallo James Stewart Why do people talk so much trash about Stewart? If you could only imagine how much effort it takes to stay on top in such a stacked field. Now throw in injuries and the FIM suspending you for 16 months. The guy has been through a lot and it's probably very hard to bounce back from. Say what you will, but when he comes back healthy and confident you'll eat your words. Derick Edwin Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com.
